Answer
Nick,

The short answer is, yes, you should be able to drop the 1500 into the GT6 without too much fuss.

Having said that, yes, you'll want several parts from a Spitfire donor car.   The front suspension towers have the engine mount holes in them and although it's only something like 1/4" or 3/8" difference the GT6 straight 6 did have a wider mounting arrangement.

If you do try to do the swap you'll want to use the Spitfire transmission and driveshaft to avoid any other mismatches.

But I'll ask why you'd do such a swap?  The GT6 Mk 3 is several hundred pounds heavier than the 1500 Spitfires, and most of the 1500s were making 40-50hp at best.  The late 1500s were not known for their stunning acceleration.

If you look around I'm sure you could find a GT6 longblock at places such as the Vintage Triumph Register (www.VTR.org).  Check the classifieds.

Cheers,

Jim
