Question
Howard
I would like to remove all of the smog equipment from my 79 TR ysuek7. What
can I remove. What do I have to replace and what adjustments do I have to make.

Answer
Hi George,

If you are a shop, that is a federal crime. Each state seems to have different laws pertaining to emission testing. For example, when I worked in a dealership, we were told that we could not remove ANY emission control equipment as it was a Federal crime. However, it didn't not seem to be the same for a car owner. Here in TN they look to see if the CAT is still on the car but don't open the hood to see if the AIR pump and lines are still there. So as the law goes in a shop I could not remove an AIR pump but if I had a car that did not have an AIR pump I could still pass emission testing and get a tag.

I seems to be a large gray area as for what you can and can not do. I can not tell you how to commit a Federal crime. If the car is a race car and not to be used on the street I can probably help with tuning advice but I will not advise you how to disable any emission control equipment used on a street car no matter what state you live in.
