Triumph Repair: 1971 spitfire timing, combustion chambers, excess carbon

Question
the engine shakes when i turn it off,  i was told its the timing.  how can i fix it?

Answer
Hi Benajamin,
The engine shaking after you turn it off is an indication of detonation which cane be caused by many things including ignition timing.

Low octane gas is the most common cause so first confirm that you have high test gas in it, then set the timing to specs.

If it still does it you need to have the engine tested for excess carbon in the combustion chambers and check the heat range of the spark plugs. Next would be check to see that the engine is not over heating and also that the carburetors are adjusted correctly.

These are the most common causes.
