Triumph Repair: thermostatic vacuum switch, emission control device, vacuum hoses

Question
QUESTION: hello howard,  my question is, is the thermostatic vacuum switch needed on my 1974 spitfire 1500 and if it is where can i go  and find the right way to hook up the vacuum lines. my owners manual does not show a clear picture and shop manual has nothing. so i hope you can help me.

ANSWER: Hi Lester, Sorry I don't have a vacuum diagram either and the only thing I remember is that only two of the three ports had vacuum hoses on them and it was for emission control only. There use to be a vacuum diagram under the hood when the cars were new but most were long gone by the time the car got any age on them.
Most of the manuals were very poor on having vacuum diagrams on any of the British cars.

QUESTION: do i need the thermostatic vacuum switch  or can i get rid of it?

Answer
Hi Lester,
Check with what is required as an emission control device and if it is not required as an emission control device then you can chuck it.

If you are asking if it is needed to run the car, no it is not needed to make the car run well. As I already told you, it was part of the emissions that the factory installed. If it is required (where ever you are to meet emissions then you need to keep it)

Do you understand now? It would be against the law for me to tell you to remove a emission device.
