Triumph Repair: TR7 Drivers side rear end sag, oil shocks, oil shock

Question
Howard,

The driver's side rear body of my 76 TR7 sags about 2 inches lower than the passenger side.  Is it common for the driver's side rear spring to go soft ?  I don't think it's a stuck shock because that side can still bounce up and down although it has less travel...

  Thanks,

  Steve.

Answer
Hi Steve,
It can be either the spring, or rear suspension mounts or the shock if it is a "gas over oil" shock.

You need to examine the spring to see that it is not broken and look at all of the suspension mounts to see that none look destroyed. Then remove both shocks to see if they are "Gas over oil" shocks. A gas over oil shock feels like it has a spring inside. You may need to also remove the sway bar to be sure it is not bent.
