Hi Nanci,
Your symptoms do not narrow the problem down to more than a thousand possible causes. If it happened just after the work you had done, you should take it back and explain what it did after their work.

If for some reason you do not want to return to who ever did the work, you need to locate a British car specialist not just any mechanic.

Ask them to run a CO and HC test and put the ignition on a scope. These two tests will put the fault in a small area so it can be identified and corrected. A good British Car specialist can still run necessary tests even if he does not have a scope nor CO/HC equipment. They just won't be as quick.
