Triumph Repair: TR4 clutch creeping problem, clutch slave cylinder, clutch pedal

Question
I just had my TR4a transmission rebuilt and reassembled to engine. Gears shift fine, but the problem is when I am full stopped and in gear, clutch depressed, after a few moments car will creep forward. It is hard to get it out of gear at this point, and it will stall out if I keep foot on brake. When i proceed to drive, clutch pedal will be very close to floor when it engages. I have bled the clutch slave cylinder, attached push rod to each of the three holes on throw-out lever, but this creeping happens no matter where I have push rod attached. I can't figure this out!

Answer
Hi Elliot,

The fact that you say "after a few moments" is the indicator of a master cylinder problem. The test is simple. Start the engine and pump the clutch pedal up a few times and depress the pedal and put it in gear (brake off) then take it out of gear and put it back in gear to confirm the clutch is working, then just sit there with the pedal depressed and in gear. If the car slowly starts creeping then you need to either rebuild or replace the master cylinder. It is advisable to do the slave cylinder at the same time. (use DOT 4 fluid) Air in the system has nothing to do with this. The fluid is bypassing the master cylinder piston and returning to the reservoir.
