Triumph Repair: 73 1500 rebuilt-runs best without vacuum advance, vacuum advance, smooth acceleration

Question
Howard,
Crazy question-I've got my 73 1500 (rebuilt) running and idling at 850 after warm-up.  Taken it on the road and performs well.  No flat spots or hesitation.  Smooth acceleration/deceleration.    Question is-this was only possible after I disconnected and plugged the vacuum advance tubing. This car came without the vacuum modulating valve, the one in the radiator return hose with the thermostat that shuts vacuum advance as engine temp goes up-(standard on a 73, so says the literature)so the vacuum line I did have went direct from carb to distributor.  The internal distributor counterweights and their springs are fine.  Is there any problem leaving things this way?  Best Regards,
Cheers,
gary

Answer
Hi Gary,
All of that was for emission standards so that is more of a legal question depending on your emission laws. As far as the engine goes, if it performs well and shows no signs of overheating nor detonation / preignition, it should not be harmful to the engine at all.
