Triumph Repair: Bumper swap, Spitfire, chrome

Question
I have a 1979 Triumph spit.  I would like to swap the "rubber" bumpers for the chrome.  I believe the rear is a direct swap with any Mark IV...however, the front maybe a bit tedious.  What would be the easiest swap for both the front and rear bumpers of a 1979 to an earlier chrome bumper model?

Answer
Billy,

The Spitfire Mk IV/early US 1500 bumper setup is the best looking setup for the squaretail, in my opinion.

In order to convert you'd need the bumpers (obviously) plus the front lower valence and grill.  You'll also need to remove the heavy brackets off the hinge covers in order to get the thin plastic covers to fit.

The rear bumper on the early squaretails does include a license plate lamp.  Either remove the two units from rear of the trunk or just use them and leave the bumper lamp unlit.

The later chrome rear bumpers have a bolt on center section that can be removed for the "early" look.   They will have several holes in the bumper top face, and typically the chrome finish under the bolt on section wasn't very smooth.  A decent chrome shop should be able to fix that.

Cheers,

Jim
