Triumph Repair: Converting a Spitfire to Tanden brakes, Spitfire, 1500

Question
I am trying to convert a 1978 RHD Spitfire from single line to dual line brake system.

There appears to be only one bulkhead fitted to all RHD models and the tandem system looks to have been used on later models (Rimmer/Moss...).  But my new master cylinder and bracket won't fit.  There is an indent in the bulkhead for the cylinder to fit it onto LHD models but there doesn't seem to be one for RHD models.

How does this work??

Any help appreciated

Tony

Answer
Tony,

Not sure what you're trying to do here.

The '60s Spitfires with single line brake master had an aluminum m/c with an aluminum cap, roughly 2.5" in diameter.

Around 1970 Triumph converted the cars (all markets) to dual line M/Cs.  These have a plastic reservoir with a 4" cap.

Around 1976 the US models got a m/c with a smaller cap (2"???) and had the dimple in the firewall to accomodate the longer m/c unit.

Rimmer Brothers (www.rimmerbros.co.uk) should have appropriate diagrams and parts listings for the RHD cars.

Cheers,

Jim
