Triumph Repair: 1979 TR7 signal/blinkers problem, domestic carburetors, left blinker

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
My 1979 tr7 drives like a top, but last night the blinkers stopped working, I was driving and all the sudden I tried to turn my left blinker on and it never lit up, same thing to the right. The car sat for 2 months, would this be a fuze or maybe the blinker unit?

-Jeff

ANSWER: Hi Jeff,
First check to see if the windshield wipers work. If they don't it can be a fuse. If they work check the power to the turnsignal switch then the flasher then the Hazard switch then the hazard flasher. That is where the power comes from.

QUESTION: Also, I just had an oil change and "tune up" but the mechanic said I dont need a tune up, i need to rebuild my carburetor. I am just wondering if it has to be a specific one or could I go to a junk yard and grab any kind.

(thanks for your help by the way)

Answer
Hi Jeff,
The TR-7 has two carburetors and I doubt you will find any in a salvage yard and even if you did, they are just as likely to need work as yours. I don't know what made your mechanic come to the conclusion that the carburetors need overhauling but if he is not a British car specialist you need to stay away from him and find an MG and Triumph specialist in your area. The Stromberg carburetors were used on many British cars. They have very few parts in them but they operate very different than domestic carburetors do. So I would advise you get on the phone and locate a British car specialist in your area to check it out.
