Triumph Repair: Triumph TR5 Clutch Master Cylinder, clutch master cylinder, triumph tr5

Question
Hi Howard
I recently had some very helpful advice on the TR5 not starting. After your assistance I tracked it down to the coil, which I replaced and its all good now, so thanks.

I was hoping you could help me with a minor but annoying issue. When I purchased the car the paint below the clutch master cylinder was peeling, so I had it repainted, but it has happened again. I can only assume its the clutch master cylinder leaking however there is little evidence of fluid etc. I have seen TR6's modified to fix the issue with hand made drainage trays etc but I would prefer the fix the issue and leave the car in stock/original condition if possible. I assume leaking clutch cylinders are an ongoing issue  with TR's?? Appreciate your advice.

thanks

Answer
Hydraulic leaks are an issue on all cars. The fluids are very clear looking when a thin film of them leak down on to paint. Usually you can pull the rubber boot off to feel for leakage and then rebuild or replace it. Another option that some show car people do is to use DOT 5 fluid which does not harm most paints. DOT 5 fluid has other problems but if you do not drive the car very much it is a option.
