Triumph Repair: What weight of oil and plugs to use for a 76 spitfire 1500, Spitfire, tuning

Question
I just brought home a 76' 1500 has about 54k miles wonder is there a certain type of motor oil or a certain weight to use? and what type of spark plug should I use is there a brand, or a certain number for a certain heat range of plug? I live in MI.

Answer
Lee,

Typically the Spitfires do well with 20W50.  Personal preference is Castrol GTX, but that's just my preference.   Any name brand oil you find these days should be fine.

That's assuming warm weather (greater than 50F weather) driving.  If you use the car in the Michigan winter then you probably want to use a 10W40 weight oil.

Champion N12Y is the factory listed spark plug (gap .025").   Personally I prefer NGK plugs and use BP6S (or BPR6S resistor type) in my '78.

Cheers,

Jim
