Triumph Repair: TR4 gas tank drain plug, jb weld, pipe tap

Question
My 64 4 has been stored since 1986.  This year my 8th grade son decided we need to have her in the Christmas parade (now 7 days away).  When I removed the gas tank drain plug it popped out with only 2/3 turn and seems there are no threads on the plug or the tank...is there a quick fix for this (some miracle cure involving JB Weld or an expanding plug or something?)  The clock is ticking!

Answer
Hi Greg,
A temp fix in the bottom of a fuel drain plug in a Christmas parade??? Not me!!!! How much liability insurance do you have? All I could picture in my head was fuel running out and over to the side of the road where all those kids were packed in tight and two smoker parents standing there.
If it were mine I would just go down to your local hardware store and take the bad drain plug with you and purchase a threaded pipe plug to be just a tad larger than your stripped plug and purchase the pipe tap for that size and tap the hole to pipe thread and be sure to pick up a roll of Teflon thread tape to be sure of a seal. Then later get a straight tap of the appropriate size and a straight drain plug and fix it right.
Don't try to short cut by just forcing the pipe plug in the unthreaded hole!!! It will come out when you least want it to. Murphy and his law will be following you.
