Triumph Repair: Triumph GT6 dies when hot, triumph gt6, test light

Question
My 1971 Mk2 Gt6 has been recently overhauled and is mechanically very sound and when running is fine. When hot though, the engine dies completely and there is no electrical power to indicators, wipers etc. After letting it cool for 10 minutes or so it starts and runs perfectly.
Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi David,
The fact that it dies when hot narrows the problem to only a thousand things so you need to do some testing with a wiring diagram and a test light. ALL TESTS MUST BE DONE IN THE FAILED MODE!!!
Since you lost power to many items it sounds like a loss of a main power supply or a main ground circuit. (keep in mind that all electric must travel in a circle, battery back to battery)
If you get no idiot lights on when you turn the key on the first place to test is the brown wire at the ignition switch for power. (This wire is hot all of the time)
You need to test only one failed circuit at a time. Take your test light and follow the wiring diagram from the power (battery) to the load (what ever failed item you have picked to trace). Most of the time when you trace one failed circuit of several failed circuits you will correct all when you get to the problem of the one circuit.
If you don't have a wiring diagram let me know and I will put one up on my web site for you to copy.
