Triumph Repair: no spark, light test, test light

Question
78 spitfire with Lucas 45de4 distributor w/electronic ignition. Car has been off the road since 1980. I have no spark. I have power to both sides of the coil with key on and when I crank it over using a test light to the negative side of the coil, it does not blink. I have power on all 3 wires at the distributor. It seems that the igniter and/or reluctor is faulty. Assuming the simple "test light" test is valid, what is a good replacement igniter system? I am looking at Pertronix systems, but there doesn't seem to be enough in-fo on their website to know which one is correct for this application. What is your experience with replacement igniters? Victoria British doesn't seem to sell those parts separately. I don't need the whole distributor. Thanks

Answer
Hi Mark,
The only thing I can tell you is that the original Lucas system would fail even before they got out of warranty and that is why several companies started making replacement systems. I can't comment on the quality of the aftermarket units. All I can tell you is to look at the price and ask what the warranty is and compare that to switching to an earlier pointed distributor.
