Triumph Repair: 1979 Triumph TR7 clutch update, clutch system, dot 4

Question
Howard,

Just wanted to give you a quick update since you've been so much help.  It APPEARS the problem is I'm boiling the brake fluid in the clutch system.  I've got DOT 4 fluid with a higher wet boiling point, but driving it in today I don't think it's enough to solve the problem.  I'm going to try and put heat wrap around the clutch line to see if that solves the problem.  I can't believe the heat is coming in through the slave cylinder, but am suspect the line is getting too much heat from running over the clutch housing.  Drove it in today to our company "cruise in" and have already had a lot of great comments.  Was good coming in, but by the time I got to work (18 miles) it started acting up again.....  will try this weekend unless you have other thoughts.

Thanks!  Vito

Answer
Vito, there is no way that the engine or the bell housing is getting hot enough to boil DOT 4 fluid even in racing conditions. Dot 4 fluid has been used in the brakes on race cars and even with brake disks getting red from heat the fluid has held up. Unless your car is on fire, there is no way that heat is causing any problems with the fluid, you have some other issues causing the problem.
Does the pedal feel any different cold to hot? I hate to tell you but I believe your problem is inside.
