Triumph Repair: TR6 Starter, british cars, mechanical ability

Question
I have a TR6 all original parts. it was my wife's grandfathers and only has 19k miles on it. i am interested in doing work on it myself, but am limited with my mechanical ability. we put a new battery in last year and when i try to start it, i get a clicking sound....i wiggled some wires and tried to start it and it fired right up....it sat for about a week and now the same issue. What should i do? i am interested in finding a diagram of the engine so i can at least have parts identified - any resources for that? i do not know where my starter is?

Thanks,

Answer
Hi Russell,
As with any repairs it requires some hand tools and a little basic knowledge of mechanics. You don't necessarily need to be a mechanic. If you don't even know where a starter motor is you are a long way below the basics. It will be no use explaining the tests you need to do to find the problem if you don't know what I would be talking about. Your best bet is to get a friend who knows a little about cars to contact me and let me try to help you through him. If you don't have anyone who knows a little about cars you would be far better off looking for a local shop that works on British cars.
