Triumph Repair: steering column, Spitfire, Steering

Question
I have substituted the two bearings (upper and lower) and the flexible joint (refer to Anglo Parts catalogue page 98, components nr. 69 and 106), but now there is a noisy movement of the steering column when I pass with the car on irregularityes on the road. What could I do for reducing this fastidious defect ?

Thank in advance. Carlo

Answer
Carlo,

You don't mention which model year, but despite the steering column change near the end of production all the cars do have a felt pad in the lower clamp and an upper clamp.   If either of those are loose you'll get a movement in the entire steering column.

You also might have loose steering rack clamps.   Not a bad idea to make sure everything is tight.

Cheers,

Jim
