Triumph Repair: 1973 Spit heatshield and Electric Fuel Pump, electric fuel pump, inline fuse

Question
Howard- I have two very basic questions;
1- where is the best place to wire a fuel pump and how it the best way to do it?
2- How in the heck do I install the heatshield?  I cant figure out how it attaches?
Thanks, Ross

Answer
Hi Ross,
When installing an electric fuel pump in place of the mechanical pump, you should first find out what pressure the pump that you intend to use is. It should be from 1.5 to 3 PSI but not higher. and the best place to put a pump is back under the car near the fuel tank and mounted low so it always has a good gravity feed from the tank. If you mean a heat shield for the pump, you only need a heat shield if it is mounted near the exhaust pipe. You should also remove the old mechanical pump and put a plate over the hole. As for the wire, I would just take a test light and check to see which fuse is only hot with the key on and add an inline fuse to the pump and be sure to run a ground wire to the pump and ground it to a good metal part of the body.
