Triumph Repair: Triumph 1300 Sump Plug, triumph 1300, hand thread

Question
I am having great problems removing the sump Plug on my 1966 Triumph 1300. This is (as I'm sure you will know# A large square bolt on the lower left hand side of the engine. Any idea of the best way to remove it #also simple question but is it a standard or reverse thread?).
I have heard that if this won't loosen that you can remove on of the 2 sump bolts holding the sump to the block and the oil will drain. Is this true?

Answer
Hi Paul,
The drain plug is a standard right hand thread and needs to turn counter clockwise (as you face it) to loosen it. If it is tight you just need a longer handle on your wrench. Many mechanics use a piece of pipe over the wrench to get more leverage.
You should not have to remove the pan unless the threads are destroyed on the pan. In which case you would have to remove the pan but I hope you have more than two bolts holding it in place.
