Triumph Repair: 71 TR6 Fuse Issue, fuse blows, gauge works

Question
I replaced a fuse that controls the wipers and gas guage. When I start the car, both these items are operational, however, when I start driving, the fuse blows. Am I looking at a short circuit and need to check it out???

Answer
I take it that when you replace the fuse, turn on the ignition, but do not start or driver the car, the wipers/gauge works without blowing the fuse.

If yes, when you start the car, and activate the wipers will it blow then?

If not, You need to look for a + voltage wire rubbing grounding out due to vibrations while driving or running the car.  If the fuse blows when the engine is not running, it may be the same condition, or a failure within the switch or one of the two components.

Hope that helps.  It can be tough to trace, but follow where that fuse line exits the fuse box and trace it to the components.  The bad news may be that the exposed wire grounding out may be within the harness and may not be visible.
