Triumph Repair: Right Rear Suspension Sag, triumph spitfire, rear shocks

Question
Hello - I was recently adjusting my rear brakes on my 1980 Triumph Spitfire.  After lowering the car back down, I noticed that the suspension height on the passenger rear of the car is now much lower than the other side.  I have driven it around and also raised and lowered it again with no results.  It seems as though the shock isn't as extended as the other side is.

Any thoughts?  Could my shock be damaged?  I have the Gas-A-Just rear shocks.  I was also thinking leaf spring too.

Thanks

Adam

Answer
Adam,

You've got the KYB regular shocks and not the pneumatic "helper" shocks?

If you disconnect the shock on the passenger rear, can you get it to extend fully?

It's typical for the Spitfire rear ends to take a "lean".  Sometimes it's the rear transverse spring.  Sometimes it's an issue in the front that's forcing the rear end up/down.

One thing to try is to loosen the rear suspension bolts and tighten them all with the rear end level on the ground.  Or at least with the rear vertical links supported evenly side to side.

Cheers,

Jim
