Triumph Repair: Ignition light, perth western australia, speedo cable

Question
Hi
I was messing around with my 67 triumph spitfire speedo (still not working), had the dash partially out. after I finished I put it all back into place and found that the ignition light is staying on. Can a short somewhere make this light come on.

second I installed a new speedo cable and found that it still does not work. now i can't get the cable out from the back of the speedo. any suggestions

Answer
Paul,

The ignition light is connnected to the top fuse on as the "power feed" and grounds through the generator.   Once the generator voltage is close to battery voltage there is no potential difference (voltage) across the bulb and it goes dark.

If you've got the connection to the generator grounded, the light will stay on.

As to the speedo cable, it's a screw on connection on the back of the speedometer, correct?   Unscew the nut holding the cable housing to the speedo and try to get the cable coming as straight as possible from the back of the speedo.  If there's a bit of an angle the inner cable sometimes gets hung up in the speedo drive gear.

Cheers,

Jim
