Triumph Repair: Reverse gear spacer, spacer, missing something

Question
I am reassembling a 79 spit transmission that was not taken apart by myself. I am installing reverse with its spacer and shaft. The spacer appears to be several hundred thou to large for the shaft. Am I missing something. I would expect the spacer to be the same clsoe smooth fit as reverse with its new bushing. The book shows nothing, IPC shows nothing and the spare transmssion in a box has the same goofy part.

Answer
Dean,

From the sound of it, whoever pulled the transmissions apart weren't able to find the correct part and tried to "make do" with a spacer (or plain bushing) not correct for the Spitfire.

The transmissions I've had apart have had a spacer (distance piece) that was a proper fit on the reverse shaft.

Cheers,

Jim
