Triumph Repair: clutch Problems, clutch problems, clutch pedal

Question
I have a 1976 spitfire, I recently bought the care and it needed care from not having been driven for a number of years. The master cylinder was dry but after some cleaning and new fluid it worked. I drove the car home and even around town some. I then noticed the slave cylinder was leaking. I removed the slave and installed new parts. I have pumped it up, bled the air out and re-installed, but the clutch will not engage. Have I done something wrong, or is there an adjustment for the clutch. I am not positive I have got the push pin installed in the end of slave, is there a trick to getting this accomplished properly. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks  kent

Answer
Kent,

It does sound as if you didn't get the clutch push pin into the slave cylinder.

Best bet is to pull the slave and and see where the push pin is at.  If it's off to the side, yup, you missed.  Only trick I know is to be really careful on pushing the slave cylinder into place.

Once it's in place, try the clutch pedal.  You should feel resistance from the clutch.  If not, try again.

Cheers,

Jim
