Triumph Repair: Identification numbers, heritage certificate, windshield frame

Question
My car is a Spitfire 1500, 1975, USA spec, There is a spot welded plate on the chassis just below the bulkhead with a
FC3*****2 number , this does not correspond with the commission No.FM3****UC can any information be had from this number ie.dating.Trying to determine if chassis is the original. Also there is a small Aluminum plate riveted to the inside of the windscreen frame with yet another number,FM6****UC which would relate to 1977.

Answer
Jeff,

I've never seen a reference of the frame ID numbers to know which year a particular frame was made.  They definitely are not related to the Commission number(used as the VIN in the US)

You can ID an approximate age by the addition of the rear bumper supports and the exhaust cutout in front.

As to the Commission/VIN plates, there are two.   One in the drivers door opening on the b pillar and one on the windshield frame.  Both numbers should match exactly.

In the 30+ years since the cars have been built there have more than a few that have been "rebuilt", using parts from different cars.

You can get a full build detail on your car by orderinging a Heritage certificate at:
