Triumph Repair: GT6 Transmission, transmission linkage, hemisphere

Question
I had to replace some of the  transmission linkage.  The 'nylon sphere', that is
what my shop manuel calls it, disintegrated.  There was no reverse stop bolt.
The plate was there.  The grease accumulated in the bolt opening told me it had
not been there in a while.  The car shifts fine.  What does the reverse stop bolt
do?  Can I leave it like it is?

Answer
I'm not that familiar with the bits of that tranny; but it would do one of two things; Prevents you from over-extending the linkage, or requires you to do the lift and shift to get into reverse.  I would suspect that it the cause to destroying the nylon hemisphere.

It lasted this long, so I don't think there is any fear of "must" replacing it.  If you still have to lift to get it into reverse, then I would say you are ok to leave as is.
