Triumph Repair: Weber conversion vacuum advance issue, vacuum ports, vacuum advance

Question
I HAVE A 1976 MG Midget 1500. I converted the single carb to the Weber DVG carb manual choke.  There is no way to hook up the vacuum advance from the distributor. Any suggestions?

Answer
There are vacuum ports on the weber 32/36; If you unmount the carb from the manifold, and the manifold side of the butterfly valve, there should be at least 1 pinhole in the throat which leads to a brass tube on the body of the carb.  The PO on yours may have the tube removed and plugged at one point.  You should be able to find a couple spots on the carb to use.

Your other option is to drill & tap a small NPT port on the manifold on the flat spot that was cast into the manifold.  I've tended to stay away from that, as I can usually find the carb vacuum port.  I don't run vacuum advance, so I am always capping these ports with a rubber bootie, or plugging with a lead ball.

Hope that helps...
