Triumph Repair: Wheel bearings, wheel bearings, wheel studs

Question
I have successfully dismantled my front hubs from the router to replace the short wheel studs used for my old wire wheels with new longer studs. I want to re-pack the wheel bearings with grease, but have a question. A bearing is held inside the hub by a large washer. I want to remove that bearing to clean the inside of the hub and re-pack the bearing, but the washer is holding fast. I am not sure if I can use a BFH from behind, pry it out with a flat screwdriver or if there is something I am missing?

Thanks for your previous advice on the stud replacement.

Answer
Hi Craig,
The large washer behind the nut can be removed with a hook made out of a coat hanger by just working around the edge or some do as you say, just bump the hub off with a lead mallet or such. Be careful to retrieve the thin shims that are on the other side of the outer bearing. They are used to set the preload on the bearings. If you noticed the nut was tight not just snugged up like most domestic cars.
