Triumph Repair: Transmission noise, triumph spitfire 1500, transmission noise

Question
This recently developed in my 1980 Triumph Spitfire 1500. When I put it in first gear and start to go, there is a distinct noise that sounds like a bad bearing, then when I depress the clutch, I still hear the noise, but when I pull the shifter out of first gear into second, the noise stops. Then there is no more such noise in any of the other gears. I figure an expert might know right away what that would be.

Answer
Hi Tom,
It sounds like you need to go into the transmission. There is nothing you can do from the outside.
It will be obvious once you take it apart what parts need to be replaced. That's the way it is with straight stick transmissions.
Anyone who tries to tell you exactly what to buy before you open it up has never been in a transmission.
