Triumph Repair: 76 TR6 runs but wont start, jury rig, soleniod

Question
Hi,
I recently purchased a 76 TR6.  It ran great for a couple days then started having problems starting the car.  The first time I just played with the key and it started.  The nest time I tapped on the starter and it went.  Now, it won't start with anything I've tried.  The car still runs (can bump start it) but it offers nothing when the key is turned.  I've checked the starter (working)  all fuses, and wiring to the best of my abilities and found nothing.
Any ideas would be very welcome!

Answer
Clarify "checked the starter (working)

When you turn the key, do you hear the "click" of the solenoid, or no click?
I take it you were tapping the smaller "can" on the starter, which is the solenoid.

It sounds like the solenoid for the starter, or the wire that triggers the soleniod is bad/worn/corroded/etc.

If you can put +12 to the switch on the solenoid, and it cranks, then the problem is wiring between the starter and the ignition switch.

Given what you describe, I would suspect the solenoid for the starter is at fault.

You can always run a direct momentary switch to the starter, and bypass the ignition if you wanted to jury-rig something until you found the true cause.
