what kind of oil to use in the carb of a 1980 spitfire

Hi Sandy,
I use engine oil, but some use automatic trans fluid ok. The oil is mainly a shock so as to hold the piston down on a quick throttle opening. This speeds up the air flow across the jet thus giving you a rich mixture that is needed on a quick throttle movement. That takes the place of an accelerator pump used on carburetors.
The shock also dampens the vacuum pulses at idle.
