Triumph Repair: Triumph Spitfire Tachometer, internal mechanics, copper tube

Question
Howard,
I had asked a question about my damaged tachometer on my
1979 Spitfire blowing a fuse when I connected it.  I
decided to open the tachometer up to see what was shorted
and found that the green wire inside had come off the
copper tube which connects the tachometer to the electrical
system.  Is it possible to bypass the copper tube and just
connect the green wire to the electrical system? I looked
through all of my manuals for a diagram of the internal
mechanics of the tachometer, but did not see anything.  Any
help is appreciated.

Ethan

Answer
Hi Ethan,
I have never seen any of the manuals detail the inside of any instrument as they do not expect any one to try to repair them. If the copper tube you are talking about just goes out to the electrical system I don't see the harm in trying, you are at ground zero anyway so all you have to loose is another fuse. Keep a fire extinguisher handy.
