Triumph Repair: SU HS2 throttle linkage problem, throttle linkage, linkage problem

Question

SU HS2 carbs - broken
Hi,

I helping a friend out with his Mark III Spitfire (I used to have a '78 1500) with dual SU HS2 carbs which has not been running recently.  After some tinkering we discovered that the throttle linkage is not working correctly.  Specifically the rear carb is not moving in concert with the linkage or forward carb.  There is some backwards/forwards play in the more-central bar.  If the bar is pushed to the rear, the linkage works.  If not, it slips.  I've together an image that should help you understand what I'm describing.

thanks in advance!

Stu

Answer
Hi Stu,
That's cool, I didn't know you could add a picture to this program. If you look at that shaft you will see that each arm at the end of the shaft (noted at the end of each point of your right/left arrow) can be loosened from the shaft by the small pinch bolts and thus adjusted to open each throttle at the same time. In fact that is the first step in adjusting a set of SUs.
