Triumph Repair: gt6 rear window defroster, defroster, test

Question
What is the best way to repair the defroster to working order. I have voltage to the window but the ground tab seems to fail in passing sufficient amperage/current to ground. I have tried the electric "paint" to no avail.  Help!

Answer
You need to find out where the break is; If the entire defroster isn't working (not just a part of it), then more than likely the thick vertical bar or the attachment tab itself has failed, and you need to find and fix each.

- If you use an ohm meter, and tap across the +/-, what reading do you get?  If you don't get a low # of ohms, the break is still there in the pattern.  You have to find and fix all the lines broken.

- If you do get ohms, then the break is somewhere in the wiring (since you have voltage to the window, this may not be a problem.  I would double check you have a good path to ground

- try  a jumper of the ground side to a known, clean ground with a heavy wire, and see if that passes enough to heat the strips

-Jumper a small battery to the grid itself to see if it heats up, indicating the problem is the car wiring/relay, and not the grid.

You may have to relegate yourself to replacing the whole defroster
