Triumph Repair: Spitfire Pitfalls, wheel bearings, vague memories

Question
I'm considering a 1972 Spitfire and have no real experience with them other than vague memories of a buddy's car 30 years ago.  What are the biggest pitfalls to watch out for in buying an un-restored Spitfire.  Which are the most difficult and costly to fix.

Thanks,

Jim

Answer
Hi Jim,
Hmmmm? what to look for on a unrestored 32 year old car? How about everything!
The Spitfire has a IRS and it is a swing axle type so you need to look at the axle "U" joints and outer wheel bearings as they can be expensive. You might also read my tech tips on how to test an engine you might want to purchase. Go to http://mg-tri-jag.net and read "Tech Dept" for tech tips.
