Triumph Repair: 1975 midget full throttle, crankcase breather, weber 32

Question
Up till recently my mg midget has run fine no problems, but out of the blue the engine will full throttle immediately after it turns over (4000+rmps). The throttle cable is not connected, only the crankcase breather and the 2 lines on the bottom of the intake are not hooked up and it has been running fine till now. It has the Weber 32/36 carb. For the record the car is sitting in a garage on jack stands so i have not driven it. please reply ASAP

Answer
James, No engine on earth can run at 4000+ RPM unless the throttle is open or a lot of air is entering the intake somewhere and there is plenty of fuel available too. Since you are there, you need to just look for where the large amount of air and fuel are entering.

First test is simple, when it is at 4000 RPM put you hand over the carb to see if it is entering that way. Then start pinching off hoses and spraying something around the intake manifold to look for an RPM change. I'm sure you can find it.
