Triumph Repair: TR6 Door Latch, door latch, door hinges

Question
Hello,
I have a 1970 TR6. The door is from another TR6 car (this is how I bought the car). I can not adjust the striker plate so that the door is shut tight. Is there an adjustment on the locking mechanism? When I manually closed the latch hasp without shutting the door, the curled mechanism seems tight, no movement. Also the door gap at the handle end is too big. If I shim the door to move it back, will I be able to adjust the front fender back as well? I will need about 1/16th to 1/8th inch adjustment. Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer
Hi Bill,
The only adjustments are the door hinges and and the striker plate. Sometimes the holes for mounting the fender are large enough to get a small amount of movement but I have no way to tell you if your fender is all the way forward, backward, up or down. It was common for all British cars when new to need a body man to correct misfits and when you add in the possible aftermarket body parts, you can have your work cut out to make one fit even close. If you can't adjust it out take it to a good body shop to correct, that is what we had to do on many new cars.
