Triumph Repair: vitesse non starter, recon gearbox, rotor arm

Question
Hi, i can't get my 2 litre mk1 vitesse(with luminition electronic ignition) to start. I've got compression on all cylinders of approx 120psi(give or take3-4. With new dizzy cap, rotor arm, HT leads and plugs have a spark which seems strong enough, checked timing. I'm convinced(but probably wrong) that its fuel related. I've got fuel at the carbs but doesn't seem to be getting drawn into the cylinder. I've overhauled the carbs(new jets(main and float), o rings, gaskets, diaphragms spindles, butterflys etc). Still won't fire up. Do i need needles as well?
I recently fitted a recon gearbox and a high torque starter motor might this be related?
Another thought, could it be exhaust related, might there be some sort of blockage i.e. the pressure coming back out the intake.
Any help MUCH appreciated!
Many thank.

Answer
Chris,

Get a can of starting fluid (starting ether) and spray a shot into each carb.  Put the air filters back on (in case of backfire!) and see if the engine will pop then.

If so, it's a fuel delivery issue.

If not, re-verify #1 TDC and timing.

If you suspect a blockage in the exhaust, unbolt the exhaust system from the exhaust manifold, just for troubleshooting purposes.

Cheers,

Jim
