Triumph Repair: Carburetor dripping gas, zenith stromberg, stromberg carburetor

Question
Now the next problem with my 1500 Spitfire. I noticed that the automatic (water) choke was so loose as not to really be attached to the Zenith-Stromberg carb. So I tightened it back up, and now gas drips every few seconds from the 45-degree downward-pointing pipe on the auto choke housing. I know less about carbs than anything else on the car, so can you tell me what that sounds like and where should I start?

Answer
Hi Tom,
It sounds like the carburetor needs to have a good overhaul. There are several things that can cause the choke system to leak fuel so it is not so easy to just do a quick fix and problem solved. If you have never rebuilt a Stromberg carburetor it would be better to find a British car specialist in your area to do it.

If you want to try it, get a manual and start taking it apart and if you run into trouble and the manual don't cover what you are having trouble with contact me and I will try to help out but it would take us a month of Sundays to try to cover an overhaul by e-mail alone.
