Answer
Hi Charlie,
The Haynes manual does cover the removal of the door lock in the removal of the outer door handle assembly. The MK III had the lock in the door itself and is just held in with a clip. There is a picture and breakdown of the outer door handle/lock assembly in the Haynes manual for the MK IV. and they cover how to remove the inner handles and door panel. After you get the lock assembly out you just take the lock to a locksmith and have a key made.

I do understand why a person would want to be able to lock a car that can be entered by a thief with the smallest dullest pocket knife. But when small children are around, they like to play in cars and if the driveway is on even a slight incline and the child gets the brake off or bumps it out of gear it can cause drastic problems and even a death.
