Triumph Repair: fuel pump, head ache, stromburg

Question
Recently I have had some troubles fixing up some minor problems on my 1978 1500 spitfire. It would not start so i cleaned and rebuilt my carb (stock stromburg) and still no start. I came to realize the carb wasn't getting any fuel at all. Then I checked the fuel line to the fuel pump and saw it was bone dry. I remove the fuel pump and sure enough it was wore out. I have been waiting for a fuel pump now for a couple of weeks, since ups lost but now found my package. Now to save me some  possible head ache later I thought I would ask you if the pump still wont do the trick then what should i check next?

Answer
Anson,

Obviously you want to check the line from the fuel pump back to the tank.  There might be a fuel filter in the trunk behind the boot board.  If that's blocked or the fuel line is full of rust/junk then fuel still won't make it forward.

Another thing to check is to make sure you're not forming a vacuum in tank.  If you can't get fuel to flow try popping the filler cap.

Cheers,

Jim
