Triumph Repair: Turn signal and warning flasher, turn signal switch, emergency flasher

Question
I have a 1978 Triumph Spitfire.  My turn signals will not work.  when I checked the emergency flashers only the left side would flash.  If I turned the right signal light on at the same time I could get both to flash.  I am thinking it is the emergency flasher unit.  But before I tear into the dash I would like any other ideas of what might be the problem.

Answer
Hi John,
If it were mine I would check the grounds first at all the lights and confirm that the correct color wires were plugged in at each light. Then look at your wiring diagram and unplug the turn signal switch and take a 12v powered test lead and activate each light one at a time to confirm that the light and the circuit is correct. Any failed circuit should be corrected right away. When you can manually operate each light by your test lead then reconnect the turn signal switch and remove the wires off of the turn signal flasher (not the 4 way flasher) and jump the wires together. Now operate each turn signal and it should light the lights but not flash. If so connect the flasher back up and see if they operate normally. If not replace the flasher unit.
Note! When checking the lights with the test lead, make sure the correct bulb and filament is the one that is lighting.
Let me know,
Howard
