Triumph Repair: 1980 spitfire charcoal canister, spitfire 1500, charcoal canister

Question
I recently purchased a 1980 Spitfire 1500.  The car had not been ran for 6 years.  The engine starts and runs ok, however after a few minutes of running-- fluid ?gas starts pouring out of the second carbon canister that is open to air. I do not believe this is a California emissions car.

Answer
Hi Roy,
First this means the canisters are trashed. The fuel can come from the fuel tank or from the overflow pipe on the carb float chamber. A simple test would be to remove the vent pipe from the tank and from the carb and put them into a jar and watch to see which is supplying the fuel. Then make the repairs to stop the fuel flow. (over filled tank/lines connected wrong or what ever you find) (carb would be a dirty of worn needle and seat or a float problem)
When the problem is corrected you can not use the canisters again.
let me know,
Howard
