Triumph Repair: Flasher units, flasher units, negative earth

Another query about flasher units. On a Triumph Herald when the indicator switch is activated the indicators flash as normal, the warning light however flashes once and stops as the indicators continue to flash. Any ideas? It's a 3 pin 42watt lucas flasher unit.

I have be honest, I've been fighting that battle with my '78 Spitfire also.  One blink... then nothing at the dash light.

One thing I haven't tried is one of the electronic flasher units.  The only drawback is you'd need to be running negative earth... not sure how the Herald was configured originally or how your car is set now.
