Triumph Repair: exhaust manifold, spitfire 1500, salvage yard

Question
Jim, I have a 80 spitfire 1500 with a cracked exhaust manifold. I am looking at headers from spit bits. Im sure they are top notch knowing Nigel however I want to stay as close to original as possible. I have located a 76 manifold at a salvage yard with the egr at the bottom as opposed to the top as mine is, if I get all the pumbing with it to attach to the intake would this work for me? My original air cleaner also attatches to the exhaust manifold for warm air at start up is this still the same on the 76?

Answer
Daniel,

I guess my take on it would be... if you're going to stay "original" then you need to find the correct late manifold.  Unless you need to stay original for legal (emissions) reasons.

Keep in mind that the manifold in the parts yard is 32 years old and also may crack while removing it from the car.  Or while being installed on your car.

If you do decide to get the setup from the '76 I'm sure the hot air feed could be adapted, if they're different.

Cheers,

Jim
