Triumph Repair: triumph 1979 spitfire, rimmer brothers, rubber bumpers

Question
I am going to change out my us rubber bumpers with the chrome.  One of the articles said I need to get the "valences" to do that. What are they? Do I need anything else except regular nuts, washers, and bolts? The rear chrome ones have the square center look.  And what do I cover the rubber-like projections with that remain one the car?  Thanks

Answer
Lee,

The easiest thing to do would be to find someone locally with a chrome bumper car and look over the setup, you'll get a better feel for all the parts required.

If you can't do that, take a look at one of the catalogs from one of the Spitfire vendors.  A good example is the Rimmer Brothers catalog - www.rimmerbros.co.uk and follow the Spitfire link.

The "valences" are the large corner pieces underneath the bumper on the chrome bumper cars.  You'll also need the grill and any associated brackets.

Cheers,

Jim
