Question
Restoring an 80 Spitfire,Got it running before removing engine to detail it and frame.Replaced engine, now starter will not turn, replaced battery and selonoid, removed and checked starter it seems fine.I need some help on how to wire the seloniod I'm thinking

Answer
Hi bob,
The starter solenoid has two small connections and the two large posts. One large post connects to the strap going into the starter motor and the other gets the battery cable. The two small connectors are usually different size so you can't mix up the leads. If these have been altered you need to just test the small posts with a jumper wire to the battery post. One will activate the solenoid and the other will not. The post that will activate the solenoid gets the white w/red and white w/orange wires. The other post gets the plain white and the white w/yellow wire.
You need to purchase a service manual if you intend to keep the car. Keep in mind that a British car is not a car, it is a hobby.
These are the only cars on earth that have been out of business for 28 years and there are more mail order parts suppliers today than there were when the company was in business.
