Triumph Repair: 1979 1500 Valve Adjustment, haynes manual, cam lobe

Question
Hi My Haynes Spitfire manual has a vague description of how to do it(adjust valves).I've done VWs and V8s. I guess it is different than I'm  use to. Could you explain?

Answer
Jerry,

I'm not sure what you don't understand.  I'm looking at the Haynes Spitfire manual now and it's fairly straighforward.

In order to properly adjust each valve you need to adjust each one when the cam lobe is at it's maximum lift.  The Haynes manual gives a nice way to judge which to adjust by looking at a valve that's fully open.  As an example adjust the #1 intake when the #8 exhaust valve is fully open.

If you're not sure how that works, maybe you'd better refer the adjustments to a professional.

Cheers,

Jim
